Summer Science Institute
Save the Date for 2008: Bio-energy Systems and their Role in the Life, Physical, and Earth Sciences
July 9, 10, 11, 2008
The
UC Davis Summer Science Institute is sponsored by the College of
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the School of Education.
The purpose of the Institute is to broaden teacher's knowledge of the
agricultural and environmental sciences and utilize these concepts in
enhancing core science or agr-science classes. New curricula and
teaching methods will be explored through a series of tours, guest
speakers, and laboratory exercises.
We welcome a
diversity of participants including those teaching science and/or
agriculture at a middle school, high school, or community college
level. Institute goals will be to:
- Improve teacher's understanding of the research process;
- Introduce new curricula and instructional strategies;
- Provide a forum for teachers to share ideas and discuss current challenges in teaching;
- Encourage cultural, social, ethnical, and gender diversity among participants;
- Increase cooperation between agriculture and science teachers;
- Provide two quarter-units of extension credit toward professional growth; and,
- Utilize lab based and web based computer instruction to provide resources for the classroom.
