Postgraduate Certificate in Nematology

Host Department

NematodeNematology

Statement of Program Aim

The Department of Nematology, University of California, Davis, in collaboration with UC Davis Extension, offers a one-year certificate program. The program is designed to meet the needs of students, especially those in the international arena, and will include course, laboratory and field work in nematology and related disciplines. Depending upon the student's interest, the training emphasis can be tailored towards plant-parasitic, insect-parasitic, free-living soil or mammalian nematology or any combination therein. Within an area of emphasis, the students may focus on systematics and taxonomy, biological control, management of plant-parasitic nematodes, ecology and host plant resistance including molecular biology. However, faculty members in a given specialty area may not be available to accommodate students, and the students should be prepared to select an alternate area for specialization. Students will initiate their study in the fall quarter and will be required to enroll in general plant nematology, which provides the fundamental principles used in nematology. Students will take a minimum of six units per quarter.

Maximum Enrollment

To be determined.

Student Prerequisites

A TOEFL score of 550 or better is required of all nonnative English speakers. Students are expected to have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, agricultural-related fields, or equivalent and appropriate professional technical experience.
