CGIAR Challenge Program on Water and Food
The
importance of water to life on earth and the sustainability of human populations
are becoming increasingly obvious. The demands of expanding populations
for this limited resource has resulted in damaged ecosystems, political
conflict, disease and famine and will increasingly become a challenge
to regional and global security. The urgency of global water issues requires
a greater understanding of water resources, management, aquatic biodiversity,
movement, transformation, and usage throughout the world. Only through
better understanding and partnership will it be possible to address these
challenges and ensure the clean, abundant water and healthy aquatic ecosystems
for future generations.
