Rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide interfere with plants' ability to convert nitrate into protein and could threaten food quality, according to a new UC Davis study. As global climate change intensifies, it will be critical for farmers to carefully manage nitrogen fertilization in order to prevent losses in crop productivity and quality.

CA&ES researchers participate in Guatemalan expedition

This two-week expedition, funded with a research planning grant from the US National Science Foundation, brings together experts from the many disciplines necessary for understanding Lago de Atitlan, Guatemala and suggesting solutions to water quality challenges. Multiple universities from three countries are represented (University of California, Davis, University of Nevada Reno, Arizona State University, Universidad del Valle, Universidad Rafael Landivar) and nonprofit organizations working to protect the lake, including Amigos del Lago, and Todos Por El Lago.
