The CA&ES College Advancement Team earned three awards at the 2017 District VII regional conference of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) held in San Diego in early March.

Development officer Pamela Pacelli won the “Rising Star Award” that recognizes a person with seven or fewer years of advancement experience who demonstrates innovation, professionalism, and leadership. Pacelli has taken a leadership role in building relationships with alumni from across the college. She has developed strong partnerships with members of the fresh produce industry who share the college’s goals of innovation, sustainability, and quality fresh food. In just over three years with the college, she has helped raise more than $7 million in gifts and pledges.

Senior writer Diane Nelson won a silver “Award of Excellence” for the college in the news writing category for five news releases targeting diverse audiences. The stories include Students Breeding a Better Organic Popper Pepper, Forgotten Crops May Hold Key to National Security, Better Berries, Fighting Fire in a Warmer World, and Working Together to Help Agriculture Manage Nitrogen. All of these stories can be viewed online at the news archive for the college.

The college events team also earned a bronze “Award of Excellence” for individual special events—the 28 the annual College Celebration held last October. Communications and events coordinator Charleen Floyd accepted the award on behalf of the college. Floyd is a member of the events team, led by program and events manager Carrie Cloud, that orchestrates the fall gathering for the college. The 2016 College Celebration brought together 640 alumni, donors, industry partners, staff, faculty, and students—100 more than the year before and its largest attendance ever—to celebrate the college and its contributions to the world.

CASE supports alumni relations, communications, development, and marketing professionals at educational institutions worldwide. District VII represents professionals and institutions in Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Northern Mariana Islands, and Utah.
