A Message from the Dean - June 2026
Congratulations to the class of 2026!
We are thrilled to celebrate the achievements, dedication, resilience and determination that brought our students to this milestone. Their accomplishments inspire us and reflect the curiosity, innovation and leadership that define our Aggie spirit. A degree from UC Davis marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, and we know our students are prepared for this next step. Wherever they go and whatever they do, they will inspire people, remain lifelong learners and bring light to the communities they serve. We are incredibly proud of everything our graduates have achieved and look forward to staying connected as alums!
In the spirit of celebration, each year the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences honors several students for their exceptional accomplishments in the areas of academic excellence, distinctive leadership and community service. These awards include the College Medal for scholastic excellence, the Mary Regan Meyer Prize for serving humanity, the Charles Hess Community Service Award for outstanding public or community service and the Dean’s Circle Award for outstanding academics and community service. This month we have several stories that highlight food and wine and favorite summer spots. The Tahoe clarity report is out and that beautiful lake is holding steady—a wonderful example of collaborative conservation efforts with more than 80 public and private partners. From our Department of Human Ecology, researchers found that informational labels listing added sugars on restaurant menus can dissuade diners from ordering sugary food and drink and promote healthy choices. A feature on our UC Davis Hub for Sensory and Consumer Science spotlights how taste, touch, smell, sight and sound can influence what consumers buy, trust and enjoy. And a team of chemical engineers devised a technique that removes certain proteins from white and rosé wines to prevent them from becoming cloudy during transport and storage.
June marks the end of my first year as dean for CA&ES, and I am truly amazed at how we continue to move forward with excellence across our college. We had a record breaking year with philanthropy, and our grant funding across our scientific fields remains incredibly strong. As we wrap up the academic year, I hope y’all take some time to reflect on all we’ve accomplished. I have listened, learned and watched so many of you this past year, and the dedication to our mission runs incredibly deep. We are No. 1 for a reason and it is because of your commitment to our students, passion for discovery, and drive to make a difference across California and beyond. I feel so proud to be a part of this wonderful community and look forward to the coming year!
Go Ags! 🎓💙💛
