Award of Distinction Nominations 2019

Alumni  Young Alumni  Faculty  Staff  Friends of the College

The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CA&ES) at UC Davis is internationally renowned for its teaching, research, and outreach. This is due, in part, to the collective effort of alumni, friends, faculty, staff, and students. At the annual College Celebration, individuals are honored whose contributions and achievements have positively impacted our communities, advanced science and education, or enhanced the college’s ability to serve California and the world. College Celebration 2019, our 31st annual recognition ceremony, will be held on  Friday, October 4, 2019, at the UC Davis ARC Pavilion.

Selection Categories

Awards of Distinction recognize individuals for excellence in leadership, achievement, support, and/or meritorious service to the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, or for bringing distinction to the college through their careers. There are five categories for the Award of Distinction.

  1. Alumni are recognized for excellence in leadership, achievement, support, and/or meritorious service to the college, or for bringing distinction to the college through their careers. The expectation is that the nominee is professionally successful. Please document the specific ways the nominee has gone above and beyond his or her career. Please also share how the nominee has been active with and supportive of CA&ES. If a nominee is both an alumni and a staff member or a faculty member, the nominee should be nominated in the "faculty" or "staff" category.

  2. Young Alumni include our college graduates, with less than 15 years from their last degree who are worthy of recognition for their leadership, achievement, support, and/or meritorious service to the college, or for bringing distinction to the college through their careers. Please document the specific ways the nominee has been active with and supportive of CA&ES, has surpassed expectations for someone so early in his or her career, and has had more impact than is typical of a recent graduate. While all alumni are expected to be successful, award winners impact society in extraordinary ways, particularly for individuals who have so recently completed their education.

  3. Friends of the College are recognized for their leadership, achievement, support, and/or meritorious service to the college, or for bringing distinction to the college through their careers. Please document the specific ways the nominee has been active with and supportive of CA&ES. Friends of the college may be nominated as a group.

  4. One faculty member is recognized for having distinguished herself or himself by meritorious service to the college in teaching, research, leadership, achievement, mentoring, and outreach within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The award recognizes one exceptionally accomplished faculty member and highlights the contributions he or she is making to the college, California, or the world. The faculty member must:
    1. be recognized nationally or internationally for his or her achievements,
    2. have achieved a record judged by peers to be superior, and
    3. have brought distinction to the college as a result of her or his activities.
    4. Eligible titles include: professor, specialist in Cooperative Extension, "_____" in the Agricultural Experiment Station, senior lecturer (SOE), and adjunct professor. Emeriti are eligible. If the nominee is both an alumni and faculty member, the nominee should be nominated in the "faculty" category.

  5. One emeritus/a faculty member is recognized for having distinguished herself or himself with meritorious service to the college in teaching, research, leadership, achievement, mentoring and/or outreach. The award recognizes one exceptionally accomplished emeritus/a faculty member to highlight the contributions he or she has made to the college post career. The emeritus/a faculty member must: (1) be an advocate of the strategic goals of the college, (2) have served the college in generous ways including through mentorship of new faculty, voluntary continuation of academic service, or maintenance of stakeholder relationships, (3) and/or have brought distinction to the college as a result of her or his activities. If the nominee is both an alumni and emeritus/a member, the nominee should be nominated in the “emeritus/a” category.

  6. One staff member or academic appointee is recognized for having distinguished herself or himself in the areas of leadership, achievement, outreach, and/or meritorious service to the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The award recognizes one person for extraordinary achievements that may include but are not limited to improving the quality of life in California or globally; making a special difference within the college; applying exceptional creativity and innovation; or creating outstanding results in areas of outreach, leadership, and service. The award recipient will be a college member who has brought distinction to the college as a result of:
