Dean Ashley M. Stokes and Associate Dean Anne Todgham Attending
Dean Ashley M. Stokes and Associate Dean Anne Todgham with the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis will participate in the first ever Agriculture Day at the California State Fair.
The July 18 event is sponsored by the California Farm Bureau and the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom. Events will run from 10 a.m to 11 p.m. in the Tractor Supply Company Big Barn.
Ag Day at the Fair offers a new opportunity for attendees to learn about the people, products, innovations and history of the agriculture industry, which feeds the nation and the world.
UC Davis is the number one agriculture school in the nation and for more than 100 years its students, teachers, researchers and Cooperative Extension specialists have spurred innovation and advanced California agriculture.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate California agriculture with the thousands of families and fairgoers who come together each year at the California State Fair,” said Stokes. “Ag Day is a chance to recognize the incredible people, innovation and partnerships that make California the nation’s agricultural leader while helping visitors better understand where their food comes from and why agriculture matters to every community. UC Davis is honored to be part of that story and has proudly served California through research, education and public engagement for more than a century.”
In addition to the college hosting an informational table, Stokes and Todgham will attend the following events:
- California Agricultural Heritage Club Luncheon, which honors farms, ranches and agricultural businesses that have been operating for 100 years or more.
- Ag Day Showcase, a public event from 2:30 - 5 p.m. in the Livestock Pavilion featuring exhibits of agricultural institutions from across California.
- Celebrating Agriculture Social, which offers a chance for agricultural leaders, exhibitors, legislators and industry partners to network, connect and celebrate California agriculture.
The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis offers 27 majors and 39 minors to more than 8,600 undergraduate and graduate students studying agriculture, the environment and human sciences.
