UC Davis student plant breeders perfecting new variety of jalapeno popper pepper

Student plant breeders at UC Davis are getting closer to releasing a new variety of jalapeño pepper designed to elevate a popular appetizer dish. Nearly 10 years ago, students launched a project to breed a pepper with the taste and texture of a jalapeño, combined with an enlarged cavity like a bell pepper, to create the ideal fruit for making hearty jalapeño poppers.

A Message From the Dean - September 2021

Welcome to the start of a new school year! The energy on campus is quickly shifting as students settle into campus. It is great to see new faces and our colleagues in person, and I am definitely excited to see food trucks and places to purchase coffee! We have been working from home for an unprecedented amount of time, and while we expect this next phase of transition to take us time to adjust, I am continually reminded of how resilient and adaptable we are within the college, even in the face of the unknown.

Seven CA&ES students selected for UN Millennium Fellowships

Seven students from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences have been selected for a prestigious global leadership development program focused on social impact projects, UC Davis Global Affairs announced.

The CA&ES students selected as Millennium Fellows will focus on environmental justice on campus, mental health issues, childhood education, entrepreneurship and combatting stigma around HIV/AIDS.

MANRRS recognized for its ‘outstanding student leadership’

Despite virtual learning and being away from campus, the UC Davis student-run organization Multiculturalism in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), was able to come together this past year to accomplish its goal of maintaining a sense of community. The group was honored with a 2021 President’s Award for Outstanding Student Leadership by the office of UC President Michael Drake for its dedication to encouraging togetherness during the pandemic.

The skills that helped them reach this moment will be the skills that will help them succeed throughout their lives in whatever they choose to do.

2021 exceptional graduates honored with awards

Each year we honor a handful of CA&ES undergraduate students who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments in the areas of academic excellence, distinctive leadership and community or public service. Eight of these outstanding students are being honored as the academic year officially draws to a close with the 2021 June commencement.

UC Davis Junior Wins Udall Scholarship

More than professors and fellow students have been taking a close look at the research of UC Davis junior Janaé Bonnell.

The environmental toxicology major's work is featured in significant draft revisions to a state environmental justice tool that identifies communities disproportionately burdened by pollution — and policymakers, stakeholders and others had their eyes on it during the public comment period that just ended.
