These last few weeks have brought about a lifetime of change for many of us. We are living through an unprecedented time, and I want to thank each of you for your extraordinary efforts and incredible resilience.  

Campus Departments Donate Protective Equipment

Campus departments and units are donating thousands of vital supplies to UC Davis Health in its effort to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Late last week, as the campus adjusted to suspended operations, people starting asking how and where they could donate high-demand items. Tim Maguire, chief procurement officer, took on responsibility as point person and it wasn’t long before pledges started coming in.

Atmospheric Scientist Named UC Davis Teaching Prize Winner

Award Recognizes Exemplary Teaching, Research and Service

Professor Kyaw Tha Paw U carries a cheat sheet of sorts to class, with thumbnail photos and names of his students. Across a sea of faces, this personal class roster helps him learn each of their names, an effort he takes very seriously.

“He learned everyone’s names,” a student wrote on a class evaluation. “In doing so, I knew he could call on me at any time, which caused me to always pay attention. Amazing professor!”

CA&ES Ranked Second in the World and First in the Nation

The University of California, Davis, tops the world in veterinary science, according to the 2020 QS World University Rankings by Subject released today (March 3). QS, or Quacquarelli Symonds, is considered one of the most influential international university rankings providers.

The firm also ranked UC Davis second in the world and first in the nation in agriculture and forestry.

Campus Ranked Among Top Producers of Peace Corps Volunteers

The Peace Corps announced today (Feb. 26) that UC Davis ranks No. 23 among large universities on its 2020 list of top volunteer-producing colleges and universities.

Currently, 42 campus alumni are serving as Peace Corps volunteers in countries around the world, working alongside communities to develop sustainable solutions to challenges in education, health, economic development, agriculture, the environment, and youth development.

Carter and Tian Named Co-Directors of the UC Davis Cannabis and Hemp Research Center

Professor Cameron Carter and Associate Professor Li Tian have been appointed as co-directors of the UC Davis Cannabis and Hemp Research Center by Vice Chancellor for Research Prasant Mohapatra. The center was established in 2019 by campus leadership based on recommendations from a multidisciplinary workgroup, which identified several research needs that UC Davis was uniquely positioned to address.
